- THE MAIN MENU
-
- OPUS(tm) is a menu-driven BBS system with three major sections:
- the MAIN MENU, the MESSAGE SECTION and the FILE SECTION. You
- can think of the Main Menu as a hub from which the spokes of
- various services radiate. Here is what you will see at the
- OPUS(tm) Main Menu on your first call:

- The menu you saw may not look EXACTLY like this Figure for a
- variety of reasons. First, the menu is reconfigurable by the
- SysOp so he/she may have changed the format slightly (although
- the same commands will be available). Also, the SysOp has the
- ability to allocate different services to different user
- groupings. Not all commands may be available to all users.
-
- Now for a quick tour of the Main Menu options. Each option is
- selected by pressing the appropriate letter key and striking
- Carriage Return on your keyboard. As mentioned previously,
- command stacking is allowed here.
-
- MAIN The "M" command will transport you to the MESSAGE SECTION. This
- "M" is really a BBS unto itself with an extensive array of EM
- capabilities.
-
-
- MAIN The "F" command calls the FILE SECTION. Here you will find a
- "F" variety of Public Domain software categorized according to the
- emphasis of the BBS.

- MAIN The "G" command is your option to end the BBS session. Before
- "G" the line is disconnected, however, you will be asked to confirm
- that you really DO want to log off. You will then be asked if
- you would like to leave a PRIVATE message to the SysOp. After
- these two options have been satisfied the line will be
- disconnected.

- MAIN The "S" command provides valuable information about this, and
- "S" previous sessions on the board. Here is an example:

- The screen is self-explanatory. If you are not familiar with
- the EM service provided by the OPUS(tm) system please check
- with your local SysOp for more information. Suffice it to say
- that MATRIX CHARGES refer to the costs of sending EM to other
- BBS systems and OPUS(tm) keeps a running record of your account.
-
- MAIN The "A" command will invoke a questionnaire for you to complete.
- "A" Some systems may not provide a questionnaire, while others may
- use it for a variety of purposes (registration, polling, etc.).
- If there is a questionnaire provided please take the time to
- complete it.
-
- MAIN The "B" command will re-display the daily bulletin. This
- "B" bulletin is automatically displayed when you log onto the
- OPUS(tm) system. The "B" command has been provided in case
- you would like to refer back to the Bulletin.
-
- MAIN The "Y" command will page the SysOp for an online chat. This
- "Y" option may or may not be available at certain times of the day
- (yes, even SysOps sleep).

- MAIN The "C" command will allow you to change a variety of
- "C" OPUS(tm)'s initial settings to customize output to your console.

- Again, please remember that not all options may be available to
- you. Here is a brief explanation of the various Change Setup
- options:
-
- CHANGE U) Change the name you used to log on.
- SETUP C) Change the City.
- OPTIONS P) Change your password.
- H) Change your HELP level. There are three options here.
- EXPERT provides no menu help.
- REGULAR provides letter-only menu help.
- NOVICE provides the full menu (in our examples).
- N) Set the number of nulls required by your system.
- W) Adjust the screen width OPUS(tm) uses.
- L) Adjust the screen length OPUS(tm) uses.
- T) Toggle tabs as spaces or as tabs.
- M) Turn the "More?" prompt on or off.
- G) Toggle the use of ANSI graphics.
- Q) Quit and return to the Main Menu.
- S) Clear the screen before each new display.
- ?) Display a short help screen.
-
- The Change Setup option is a very powerful feature of OPUS(tm).
- Be sure and use it to customize OPUS(tm) to your liking.

- MAIN The "U" command (if available) will allow you to search the user
- "U" list for a name or partial name.
-
- MAIN The "E" command will invoke a special set of screens provided by
- "E" the SysOp. These screens may provide extra help, general
- information, an editorial or just about anything else. Check
- this command regularly -- you may find some interesting
- surprises.
-
- MAIN The "V" command will display which version of OPUS(tm) is in use.
- "V"
- MAIN The "O" command (if available) will provide an extra set of BBS
- "O" options designed by the SysOp. These options will vary from
- board to board.
-
-
-
-
- That is a summary of what's available on the Main Menu.
- Remember that there is always help available online by using the
- question mark at any prompt. Also, as you gain experience with
- OPUS(tm), you will find that command stacking can speed you
- through to your destination.
